The total amount raised as of Friday night, October 20, was $18,190. I have committed to paint 193 roses, or a little over one month per day for six months. Please help me get to one year of painting roses. Thank you to the following people for moving me closer to this goal: Karen Bowers, Joanne Cali, Laurie Chesnut, Marcie Christensen, Ron and Kitty Faria, Mary Hunt, Cindy Jones, Christopher Kenward, Jack Kilbride, Michael Larkins, Serena Lienau, Scott Lockhart, Shirley McMorrow, Daniel Montgomery, Lynne Re, Jackie Reese, Louise Riedle, Clare Rosensteel, Ernie Simard, Rick Tigner, Dave Turner, Loie Walman Yesterday, my cousins John Giuseponi and Mark Giuseponi volunteered to pay all of my expenses. That would include packaging, mailing, paint, etc. Their generosity, combined with the offer by Zak and Kristen at Village Art to provide all of my canvas, has been overwhelming. Thank you from my heart, John and Mark, and Zak and Kristen!!! I was going to use some of the income from Art Trails to offset some of these expenses. Now I can donate all of the income from Art Trails. Please come and visit me in my studio this weekend and next for Sonoma County Art Trails. Best regards, Brett Martinez President & CEO Redwood Credit UnionCynthia Negri President Redwood Credit Union Community Fund, Inc. Yesterday, we earned $3515 for the North Bay Fire Relief fund. I deposited that money a little while ago, and the email response is below. We are making a difference. Thank you, all of you, for your generosity and help with this project. Thus far, we have raised a total of $11,310. And, I am committed to painting 120 roses so far. I love painting, and your purchases of roses will keep me busy for quite a while. Maybe we should shoot for 365, so that I can paint a rose a day for a year. That would earn over $34,000. Kassia from Gallery 1870, which has sold my art for years, called yesterday and asked if she could post information about Roses of Resilience on their website. I was thrilled. Please take a look at what she wrote. Thank you, Kassia, for helping us raise money. www.gallery1870.com/blogs/news/artist-tom-swearingens-roses-of-resilience-for-the-bay-fire-relief-fund Please spread the word. Let's aim for 365. We are 1/3 of the way there! A heartfelt thank you to those who bought roses yesterday. The total as of midnight last night was $7795, with 82 roses I need to paint. At one per day, I hope everyone is patient. It will be worth it, I promise. Please keep the momentum going. Thank you to all of the people below who bought roses yesterday: Nicola Dempsey, Mimi Gerhardt-Roth, Mark Giuseponi, Susan Gruye, Chris Hightower, Karen Lambertz, Dana Madsen, Ed Merrin, Maureen Mooney, Dave Parsons, Stephanie Reynolds, Susan Rothert, Carla Scolieri, Sue Selman, Carol Skold, Andrew Thoren, Robert Weiss, Mylette Welch Below is yesterday's rose painting, a red rose on a grey background. It's titled, "Santa Rosa - Round Barn 1". I just made a $2470 donation to RCU's North Bay Fire Relief Fund. I include everyone's names in the comments section. There isn't space otherwise, and I just don't want to take the time to make 30 individual contributions. I'd rather spend the time painting. I hope all of you understand. Thank you all!!! October 15 marked the first day I began this attempt to raise fund and share some much needed beauty through art. We raised $5325 today. I just made that donation to Redwood Credit Union North Bay Fire Relief Fund this morning. The letter from RCU is below. Please pass the word. Please keep me busy painting roses for the next year. As I said earlier in the week, Sonoma County Art Trails is postponed until the next two weekends, 10/21-22 and 10/28-29. If the fire has been stabilized, and if I am here, I will be open.
All money from the sale of my art will go to the fire relief. Some Sonoma County Art Trails artists have lost everything. And many artists rely on Sonoma County Art Trails as their biggest source of income for the year. Please support them as well. Peggy and I are just fortunate that we can donate my art to raise funds. Please visit my studio and buy a "Santa Rosa" rose. You will help others get through this horrific event, and then you can hang a rose painting that represents the beauty and resilience of our community. As I write this, smoke is rising in the east. So many have lost so much, and thousands of first responders are risking their lives right now to keep us safe. Donating art is the least I can do. Thank you, Tom I've taken the last few months to think about my art and what I'd like to create. After much thought and reflection, I still want to create art that makes people smile. Recently I created the below piece, titled "RGBx2", and it is 2'x4'. While waiting to take its place in my studio during Art Trails, it is currently hanging above my mantle. Every time I walk through the living room, I see it. It makes me smile. I like the color, and marbles and jacks are always fun.
Bottom line: I want to give others the opportunity to enjoy original art that makes them smile, without breaking the bank. I've priced my art based on how much work the piece required, not how large the piece happens to be. I hope you can visit during Art Trails to see what I mean.
